Below is a sample of how a placeholder looks in a real document:

Hi {{customer_name}},

Your appointment is scheduled for {{appointment_date}} at {{location_name}}.

1. What is a Template?

A template is a standard document (Word or PowerPoint) that contains "placeholders". These are special tags that Snowmaple Doc identifies and replaces with your specific data. It allows you to generate hundreds of personalized files from a single master layout.

2. Creating Placeholders

Placeholders are simple text wrapped in double curly braces. You can name them anything you like, as long as they contain no spaces.

  • {{name}} — Simple and effective.
  • {{invoice_number}} — Use underscores instead of spaces.
  • {{AmountDue}} — CamelCase also works perfectly.
Pro Tip: Placeholders inherit the styling of the text they replace. If you make {{name}} bold and red in Word, the actual name will also be bold and red in the output.

3. Supported File Formats

Snowmaple Doc is designed to work with the tools you already use. There is no special software required to create your templates.

Microsoft Word

The most flexible format. Support headers, footers, and tables.

PowerPoint

Great for certificates, reports, and personalized presentations.

4. Structuring your Data

When you upload an Excel or CSV file, Snowmaple Doc looks for column headers that match your placeholders. For example, if your template has {{Company}}, your Excel file should have a column named Company.
